There is certain realisation within me that God is God and I am just a creature. God calls me to love completely unselfish, unwavering, unconditional which I fall awfully short of. I face with challenges beyond me to be wholly generous. I feel weak and want to retain control of “my” world, family, home, selfishly guarding, as if they were mine.
If Christ were to ask me the same question he asked to the rich man in the parable today, to sell all of my possessions to follow him, I might be on a good day? It requires me turning away from my physical, intellectual, emotional and ego to wholly serve my God. The rich man wanted to so too I but the baggage I struggle to part and in love with. I do someway understand God’s unconditional love as a mother loves her child.
So dear friends, I crawl through the eye of the needle along with my friend, the camel. Despite my deep failure to love generously, the Truth is that God understands and loves me and he provides his love to me and makes me capable. I am so grateful for this that what I can least do is to strive. I can live in community, in solidarity, to the best of my ability, the gifts that God has provided. I can create a safe community life empowered by God’s love. I can work to ensure that the resource that God first entrusted to all of us “Our Common Home” Pope Francis says. It is here that we grow in respect, love for all life that exist.
My effort may fall short, only I need to do is to choose to believe in striving to fulfilling Jesus’ call.

October is the month of the Rosary.
All parishioners are invited to pray the rosary till the end of the month.
 

Gascoigne Educational Scholarship 2018.  This scholarship is open to all ages groups who are present members of Holy Trinity Parish and are planning to study for 2018 and beyond at a tertiary level and who meet the qualifying criteria which are included in the terms and conditions. 2019 Columban Calendars available through the office $12 each.
 Calendars will be available for sale from next weekend. You can either put your money or cheq (made out to Holy Trinity Parish) in an envelope with your details and pop in the collection basket, or email, phone or drop into the Parish Office.
Alternatively pay by internet banking to Holy Trinity Parish 02-0536-0185031-00 and use CALENDAR as the reference. When you have paid, email the office [email protected] with the following details:  the amount paid, the number of calendars ordered, which Church you will collect your calendars from or if you would like to collect them from the office. Once payment has cleared, the Calendars will be left for you in the back of your chosen Church or in the office for you to collect. 

Anniversaries for those who have died will no longer be included in the prayers of the faithful. The only names that will be included are those who have aksed the priest for a Mass intention.
The names will still be included in the newsletter as they currently are, but as the dead are remembered in every mass during the Eucharist prayer, will no longer be included in the prayers of the faithful. 

When you ask the priest for a Mass intention, could you please remember to
write down which Church, date and Mass time you would like this offered.

Morning tea for the Gillies Macindoe Research Centre. Seatoun bowling club, Thursday 25 October, at 10.00am. Dr Swee Tan will again give us an update on the research carried out since our last get together two years ago. St Patrick’s Primary School Ethnic Food Fair 5.30 – 7.30 Friday 9th November
We are about to launch into preparations for our annual Food Fair. We’d love as to include the Holy Trinity parishioners as much as possible.
We have fair meetings at 6.30pm on Tuesday 16th October and Tuesday 30th October for people who are able to help us organise different aspects of the fair.

We need people to serve on the stalls (it’s very easy as we have tickets so money handling is not necessary).
Hoopla Jars - We would love anyone who is able, to fill a jar with goodies.
Ideas for things to put in the jar; stickers, little toys, Lego, balloons, lollies, stationery, jewellery, fudges, - use your imagination.
Otherwise, please come along and support us by buying our delicious food and tell your friends and family they’re welcome, too.

Sunday 14 October is the day that Oscar Romero will be canonised, and the Gospel reading (Mark 10:17-20) talks about the kingdom of God, including what we give up for it and what we hope for.  It feels a very appropriate day to include a quote from Oscar Romero’s final homily, delivered just before he was assassinated while celebrating Mass.
God's reign is already present on our earth in mystery. When the Lord comes, it will be brought to perfection. That is the hope that inspires Christians. We know that every effort to better society, especially when injustice and sin are so ingrained, is an effort that God blesses, that God wants, that God demands of us! Dove Catholic Fellowship for Women. Mission Sunday 21 October 2018 “With the youth we proclaim the gospel”. Next weekend our parish will be holding the annual Pontifical Mission Societies (MISSION-NZ) Appeal. This year we are invited to consider how we can answer Pope Francis’ call to be a part of mission especially to the many youth of today, and how we can support mission globally. Please come prepared next weekend to give generously.

Joy Cowley Book Launch  If you are a fan of Joy Cowley’s spiritual writing, you are warmly invited to the launch of her new book, Veil Over the Light.
