WHAT KIND OF LIFE DO YOU HAVE AT THE MOMENT?
The Gospel today warns us about the fate of those who have too many material things in this life. Not only do they live more complicated lives, they also risk the possibility of going to the place of torment after a life of comfort in this world. There’s nothing wrong with being rich. What is wrong is when your riches bind and blind you that you no longer have joy, fulfilments and meaning. When money becomes your God then people become just tools for you to make more money; and God has no place in your heart. I agree that the bottom line for many things in this world is money, but the human spirit with us is meant to go above the bottom line. You have riches, but do you have a life? I received a text message which says; “You make a living by what you received, but you make a life by what you give!” You may have quantity in life, but do you have quality life? Ordinary people will always have a reason trying to have more in life. Principled people on the other hand know when to stop and say no to quantity and go for quality. So, when will you stop quantifying and start qualifying for life, and for eternal life? LORD, HELP ME TO GO FOR QUALITY, NOT QUANTITY IN LIFE. AMEN! STEWARDSHIP
The Gospel speaks today of a manager entrusted by his master to care for his property. Though focus is usually given to the enterprising way the clever manager wiggled his way out of his troubles, the parable is a reminder for us of the Christian understanding of stewardship. God is the source of everything that we have and are. In a telling line from the Gospel, we are reminded, “If you can trust a man in little things, you can also trust him in greater; while anyone who is unjust in a slight matter is also unjust in greater” The gifts that God has given us are given not for their own sake. God expects us to be fruitful. When we come face to face with the Lord we will be asked how much we have cultivated everything that God has given us. A dying mana told his wife, “When I die, I want you to put in my coffin all of my money. I want to bring all of them with me.” The wife took all of the man’s money, deposited it in her bank account, then issued the man a check, and put the check in the man’s coffin. We bring nothing with us when we die. The only thing we can bring with us are the seeds of goodness we have planted in our hearts and in the hearts of others. What would you bring with you when that time comes? T.E.A.M. = Teaching Everyone About Mercy
Pope Francis has announced the Jubilee Year of Mercy from December 8,2015 to November 20, 2016, Solemnity of Christ the King. It is an invitation for us “to rediscover and make fruitful the mercy of God.” The Gospel of today is inviting us to practice one of the many faces of mercy, that is forgiveness. Remember what Pope Francis said in The Joy of the Gospel: “God never get tired of forgiving us, we are the one who get tired of asking forgiveness from Him.” God is the Father who open his arms to welcome us. How about us, who are those people in our life who need forgiveness or who need to be forgiven? “Be merciful like the Father!” May this be an Inspiration for us as we journey together towards the Father’s kingdom. Let us work and live together as a TEAM! Let’s have C.O.F.F.E.E! What is Self-denial?
The Gospel of today is one of the so many hard teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. “If anyone comes to me without turning his back… indeed on his very self, he cannot be my follower.” This invitation of the Lord has been misinterpreted often. Denying ourselves? We are created in the very image of God, why do we need to deny this very self? I would like to quote what Fr. Cantalamessa, a Capuchin papal preacher in Vatican, said about Christian self-denial. He explained that “self-denial is not a denial of who we are but who we have become.” It means we are originally good and beautiful. Human nature is good. But with the misuse of our freedom, we have become bad and ugly. So self-denial is not self-hate, but rather going back to the original beauty, an invitation to go back to the purity of our origin. Unrepented sins and accumulated evil deeds and desires can cover the beauty of who we are. Through God’s graces and blessings let us help each other to scrape off the layers of mud, dirt and ugliness that sins and misdeeds have covered us. Let our innate beauty shine forth. LORD, LET ME LOVE EVERYTHING THAT DIRECTS ME TO WHO YOU WANT ME TO BE. AMEN. Fr Mario Wednesday 7th September 9.30am There will be NO MORNING MASS at Holy Cross on this day.
