Dear sisters and brothers,
We used to call this special annual celebration of the gift of the Holy Eucharist by the name Corpus Christi (Latin for “Body of Christ”). The more recent English title puts us back in touch with the vivid concreteness of Jesus’ gift of himself in his humanity, now present to us as our risen Lord, and accessible tangibly in the meal form of bread of wine. Let’s savour his special treatment of this central sacrament of our faith. The words identifying the bread and wine with his body and blood point both to the death that separated his blood from his body and to the fact that his risen presence to the community at worship would indeed be nurturing and empowering as “bread for the road” in the post-Easter mission. It is also a repeated proclamation of “the death of the Lord until he comes.” That is a faith claim. What is proclaimed is not simply the death of a Palestinian craftsman; it is the death of the one we know as our risen Lord, present and empowering us in the continuation of his mission for forgiveness and the creation of a community of love and service. On the special day we are delighted to welcome to our fold Mrs Sarah Blair and Mrs Suzanne Kemp. Congratulations. May the good Lord Bless you. Father Ephrem After many years of dedicated service, we wish to inform you that Leona has decided to leave her role in the Parish Office and we would like to wish her all the best. We appreciate all her hard work and dedication over the years and although she will no longer be in the office, she will still be an active member of the Parish. To say thank you for everything she has done, we will be having a cup of tea after the 5.30pm Vigil Mass next Saturday the 4th June. Do join us. The complete truth is The Holy Trinity; The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He is not three but one. He is the only one God. This is the mystery of our God. It is impossible to understand it with our brain or intellect only. But it is possible if we are opened to the Holy Spirit. He is the one who can teach, guide and bring us to the unity of the Holy Trinity. There, there is no doubt, unfairness and wickedness. There we will be perfect, holy and eternal. Praise the Holy Trinity; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Unless the eye catch fire, The God will not be seen. Unless the ear catch fire, The God will not be heard. Unless the tongue catch fire, The God will not be named. Unless the heart catch fire, The God will not be loved Unless the mind catch fire The God will not be known ...........By William Blake The arrival of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost was by no means a quiet and gentle event. First there was a powerful wind from heaven - so loud it filled not just the room the apostles were in - but the whole house Tongues of fire came to rest on their heads, and they suddenly began to speak in foreign languages as they were filled with the Holy Spirit It must have been a chaotic, intense scene. The poem 'Pentecost "by 19th century poet William Blake captures some of the power of the scene with its repetition of the phrase Catch Fire. When a piece of news or gossip gets around quickly, we say it spread like wildfire. By its very nature, fire jumps from one things to another, burning more intensely the more it spreads. The arrival of the holy Spirit propels the apostles from the room where they were huddled out into the street. They simply cannot contain themselves as they begin to preach and to spread the good news far and wide -like wildfire. Where: St Theresa's Plimmerton. Sunday 21st May at 1pm - 2.15pm. Afternoon tea will follow. From Pope Francis: May the Church echo the word of God that resounds strong and clear as a message and sign of pardon, strength, aid and love. May she never tire of extending mercy and be ever patient in offering compassion and comfort. May the Church become the voice of every man and woman, and repeat confidently without end: "Be mindful of Your mercy, O Lord, and Your steadfast love, for they have been from of old" Today we celebrate the feast of the ascension and we have Luke’s account of Jesus leaving the disciples, his final words and gestures to them. Jesus’ departure does not cause the disciples to be anxious, instead we are told that they return to Jerusalem and praise God in the Temple. For Luke, this is a celebration of the mission to come. Luke’s Gospel begins in the Temple and there it ends in anticipation of the Church’s mission, a mission that was meant to be rooted in prayer and service.
We might pray these words of St Teresa of Avila today: Christ has no body now but yours, no hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion on the world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands with which he blesses all the world. Thanks so much to all those who helped settle the latest group of refugees to Wellington on 22 April - from speaking at mass, organising deposit boxes, donating pantry items, picking up food, sorting, setting up house, providing flowers and fruit, disposing of rubbish - your work was truly appreciated and, most importantly, the outcome was a group of happy families. Thanks also to those who have added their names to our list for future intakes. Catholic Social services has let us know that: "What was evident at the welcome meal organised by Red Cross on Saturday was the happiness of the families, both those who came in February and in the last two weeks. It was lovely to see the children playing on the bouncy castle and adults and young people dancing and singing together". At this stage, we have no information on when we will need to rally again - but we know that we will. We'll be in touch as soon as we hear - it is very comforting to know that you are all out there and that those who can will respond positively next time! Sincere thanks, Annette Bridgman on behalf of the Parish Refugee Settlement Team PS: If you'd like to be part of this dream team contact Annette on [email protected] or 021 204 5993. The idea is that the more people we have on our list, the more able we will be to keep responding so successfully without anyone having to do too much. St Vincent de Paul Society Book Fair thank you. Your Conferences in Holy Trinity Parish extend a very warm thank you to all parishioners and helpers who attended our six-monthly Vinnies Book Fair at St Anne's Church Hall Newtown on 2/3 May 2016. Through living a life of holiness, faith and surrender to the will of God, Mary is revered as a powerful woman of God. This meeting will focus on the life of Mary and, how through our faith in God, we too can be like Mary. If you are wanting to know more about how, then this meeting is for you. From Pope Francis: May the Church echo the word of God that resounds strong and clear as a message and sign of pardon, strength, aid and love. May she never tire of extending mercy and be ever patient in offering compassion and comfort. May the Church become the voice of every man and woman, and repeat confidently without end: "Be mindful of Your mercy, O Lord, and Your steadfast love, for they have been from of old" The Living Word
Dear sisters and brothers, there arose division of opinion among the followers of Christ. To seek unity, they gathered to pray, listen, and discern. Should Gentiles follow the same laws as Jews in the Christian movement? Who are we? Identity questions send us back to our roots and into our future to ask: what really matters? What is at the centre? What is at the periphery? How is the Spirit leading us? The Council of Jerusalem was the first of many. A council's task is not primarily one of moulding a compromise that all can accept. The deeper issue is identity. Where is the centre? Does it hold us together? Pope Francis announced a synod on the family. Catholics around the world responded to questions, the bishops travelled to Rome twice for deliberation. They did not meet online. As in the first gathering of Christians, they met face to face. Looking back over this long history, Pope Francis observes in Amoris Laetitia "The Joy of Love" There are two ways of thinking which recur throughout the Church's history: casting off and reinstating. The Church's way, from the time of the Council of Jerusalem, has always been the way of Jesus, the way of mercy and reinstatement. The way of the Church is not to condemn anyone forever; it is to pour out the balm of God's mercy on all those who ask for it with a sincere heart . For true charity is always unmerited, unconditional and gratuitous. We seek to understand the world as followers of Christ. God, you are the first to reach out. You love us where we are found wanting. Father Ephrem SURVEY ON MASS TIMES FOR HOLY TRINITY PARISH Please make sure you’ve survey returns are in by Sunday 1st May 2016.
